I think the thread is devoted to horses that actually ran in the Derby but didn't win.

I believe his name was Commanche Trail. And I believe he was by Carson City.

[quote=repent]are f*cking kidding me?
I like all 3 of those, but come on.
I will restrict this to just horses of our lifetime(we are about the same age) b/c otherwise the list would just be too long of horses that were better than the ones you listed.

Slew O'Gold
Holy Bull
Easy Goer
Skip Away
Hansel
Best Pal
Risen Star
Gate Dancer
Congaree
MDO

if you want to talk about Native Dancer and Nasua, well, there are plenty of others if you want to go far back in history.

Holy Bull, Easy Goer, Skip Away, Risen Star, Hansel 100% agreed but Medaglia D'oro & Congaree you'er kidding right ??

Point Given is a must with Empire Maker and AAlex

No,
not kidding.

MDO just ran into some real good horses and other not so good horses who freaked on one particular day.
watch his races again and you will see a very good 9/10f horse.

Congaree might be the best dirt miler not named Ghostzapper since Holy Bull.
if 8f were a more important dirt distance, we would think of him as an all time great.

You are right, Commanche RUN was a Euro. The breeder still has him though, Commanche TRAIL that is.

Yeah he was an allowance type sprinter, and his claim to fame will always be that he was the rabbit in the Holy Bull Travers.

I would say these would be the top 5 that I can remember:

Alydar, Slew O Gold, Risen Star, Easy Goer, Point Given

Im going out of my mind on this thread.

Just watched the Travers. THANK YOU. A sight to warm the heart of a lover of less-than-fashionably pedigrees. Two male line Plaudits fighting it out.

Default Quiz for the Experts

About 10 years ago:

Who was the horse that was coming through the tunnel and fliped over on its way to the Derby? Began with an E and thought the horse would be special. It was either the Derby or Breeders Cup and I believe the horse was a 3 yo????
