The next time calling a Triple Crown race for a national audience is "just another race" might be a sign you don't have the interest to be in the game.

It's the 144th running of a legendary test in the sport. I think it would be an honor for anyone who donned the mic to have the opportunity.

If you were a real announcer you'd understand that statement.

Try it. It's enjoyable.

I don't think that's an attack at all. But understand if you do.

We're all upset.

This scratch soooooooo sucks!

So saying he isn't a real announcer was supposed to be a compliment?

No. It means that until having called at this level he can't know what a desvastating blow it is to lose the chance.

If it was me I'd try to be professional but my heart would be aching. Rare indeed is the time to have the opportunity and privledge to be a part of something that could be part of history. Calls that will be replayed long after we're gone.

Becasue of that. Sadly it becomes just another race.

I truly wish I didn't feel that way. But I do.

Vic is right, and I really appreciate his honesty here...in fact it's worse than just another race..There can't even be an historic "upset" here...It's the BC Marathon Lite...Slapping the name "Belmont Stakes" on it doesn't make it special. Most of these horses will have a hard time winning overnight stakes, let alone Grade I's...

This race will gon down in history as "The 2012 Belmont* Stakes" (*=somebody had to win or yeah but, who did he beat?)

I know it's not politically correct to infer it let alone say it, but it's just become a screwy 1.5 mile allowance race at the end of a long day, with the "Belmont" name attached to it.

Only SLIGHTLY redeeming value is that it's not too bad of a betting race now

I know plenty of real announcers who disagree with that sentiment.

I don't think you read this entire thread. What you just spoke of has nothing to do with what we're discussing.

I hate no one.

There is one thing I do hate.

Anyone feel bad for the horse that wins tomorrow? It will be hard to shake the asterisk that will go along with winning.

100 % yes. You're totally right and it'll be completely unfair.
