Saratoga cancels Saturday card due to heat
Due to a forecast that calls for excessive heat, Saturday’s 11-race card at Saratoga has been canceled, the New York Racing Association announced Thursday.

An Excessive Heat Watch, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s and a heat index that could reach 107 is in effect Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.

Wonder how Alabama Stakes will spin this as a negative.

Smart move to do it as early as possible.
I feel bad for those who had a weekend planned all year, but the horses always come first.

Funniest thing is reading idiots on Twitter say Texas runs in 100 degree heat, why can’t Saratoga. People are so stupid.

So ..... they're running 13 races Sunday, the "heat" will be about the same according to local forecasts. Better if they just waited until Monday.

With all the cancellations, how does Monmouth justify running? It’s gonna be brutal this weekend. I’m in Atlantic City now and it’s already rough.

Could be getting pressure from NBC which will then crucify them in the news if horses have problems... I think running is a very bad idea considering all the cancellations and what went on out West... I am sure there are a lot of moving parts to this decision and Monmouth may have their hands tied.. They cancelled races earlier in the meet midcard due to heavy rains for the safety of the horses so this decision confuses me.. Maybe their weatherman told them there will be a breeze blowing off the ocean that will cool things down a bit. Just hoping this all comes off without a hitch BUT with the weather what it is, the amount of races and horses in that day I have real concerns.

Im taking it that the tracks that ARE running this weekend are bracing for (near) record handles?! Bc I know me some horse players, we'll flock to whatever's available.

Dennis Drazin mentioned running later in the evening. Does Monmouth Park have lighting capable of running late at night?

Darn. I was hoping they’d get creative and bring in the temporary lights that are used for nighttime road work or something. Just looking at the forecast, it looks like it’s going to be pretty hot even at 9:00.

Monmouth is on a complete hold as of 12:20pm. Horses remain in the paddock and have been instructed to unsaddle. Two scratches in Race 1 have just been announced. According to broadcasts, State Regulators have stepped into this discussion.
