Default "Le Gros Bill".. Beliveau passes at 83

A deity in Montreal and throughout the hockey world..

http://www.hockeyinsideout.com/news/...dead-at-age-83

Jean Béliveau, the legendary, brilliant Montreal Canadiens centreman whose grace and leadership on and off the ice transcended hockey for more than six decades, died Tuesday night the Montreal Canadiens announced. He was 83 years old.

Béliveau leaves his wife and soulmate of 61 years, Élise; the couple’s daughter, Hélène; and granddaughters Mylène and Magalie. They are joined in mourning by the hockey universe and countless people around the world whose lives have been indelibly touched and profoundly enriched by the man who affectionately was nicknamed Gros Bill.

RIP. Yeah, I heard Barry Melrose talk about meeting him. Sounds like a real legend to Canada, like Gordy Howe is in the US. Melrose said he never saw him without a suit on either, always carried himself with style and class. Condolences to his family.

i heard the news this morning, the guy was awesome. my condolences to his family.
the news about gordie how not good either, i'm not sure it won't be long and we'll be mourning his passing as well...he had yet another major stroke, and isn't doing too well.

Made that point today on the show too. In Quebec, his presence even outweighed that of Maurice Richard.

brodeur gets the nod tonight. not a fan of his, but don't understand the negative comments about him continuing to play. these guys should be able to set their timetable for retirement, they've earned that right!
glad tho that alfie gets to retire as a sen. it's how it should be. and i hope brian murry can get better too.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/12...-jean-beliveau

the moment of silence at bell was...amazing.

"Oh captain, my captain, bon voyage," Cournoyer said, his voice choking.

farewell, to not just a great player, but a great man.
