Default Old Fashioned Injured, Out of Derby

DRF reporting that Old Fashioned has "non-displaced slab fracture to his right knee." Might have been his last race today. Definitely no Derby. Shakes things up.

Why not ? I have read some more incredibly stupid things on this board in the past. I am now going to fit right in and post that I feel that Chocolate Candy is gonna be the speed of the derby.

I also expect Gary Richards to win the jock title at Sartoga this summer.

No dumbass. Pletcher announced tonight that he was skipping the Derby and pointing him towards The Hirsch Jacobs at Pimlico instead.

that's too bad. he may not have been a 10f'er, but he was a nice horse. i'd imagine it is career-ending...

Exactly. I think Dunkirk will run in the HJ. Then the Canterbury Derby. Followed by a nice rest after all of his races last year/this year. Then probably a fall campaign beginning at Pomona Fair. Then close the year out running in Evangeline Mile.

I understand.

I was looking things over & alot of speed remains, even w/o OF.
Papa Clem likes the lead, but I doubt that a jockey as smart as Bejarano would want that. There are certainly a number of horses who could "inherit" the lead, including Quality Road, Friesan Fire, I Want Revenge, Musket Man. Maybe Desert Party.
Does anyone know if the Euros are coming?

The horse that impressed me the most today was Hold Me Back, closing strongly.

I'd say we have a good crop of 3yos. It's gonna be a hard decision.

All folks who are surprised that another Unbridled's Son has come down with an injury at this point raise your hands. <no stirring> I thought so.

Just another example of why a future bet is a sucker's play IMO.

Anytime you bet on a four legged animal you're in a sucker, but it's fun!

True, I personally don't get the logic of putting money on a horse that you don't even know will get into the starting gate. While many believe they are going to get higher odds in the future pool, there are many cases where you can get higher odds on a horse on Derby Day than in some of the future pools.

While I hope Old Fashioned has a full recovery, I will miss the money that would have been thrown at him in the Derby.

True. Future bets are fine if you get a huge price. With a 20 horse field and betting interests like you said many will be higher odds on Derby day.
