Of course - there were no takers that day.

I just looked up the dam of General Quarters ... she had to be the all-time worst horse Calumet Farms ever owned.
Yeah, he was trained by the BEST trainer that Ramsey ever employed...

Yeah, we could hit a great clip if we ran horses that are 40-50k claimers with anyone else for 16K at MULEAH.

Fabulous Strike debuted at Tampa within about four or five days of Talent Search's debut. I was down there for it all.

Them was the good ole days! ... back when they didn't charge you for pepsi refills in the clubhouse dining room at Tampa.

He is hardly a guru. His efforts to be a Derby owner have been in place for years.

I'll toss Big Brown's dam Mien into the race. She was another stellar race mare with a 2 race career ... though her racing career lasted only two weeks.

Track: Churchill Downs
Surface: Dirt
Distance: 10 furlongs
Weight: All horses carry 126lbs

Morning Line & Comments:

Kobla (4/5) Beaten 30+ lengths in both career starts - but has a serious pace advantage and should be able to cruise on a loose lead. Easily owns fields best dirt Beyer.

Mien (7/5) Only horse in field to run a respectable race - but it came on turf. Was barely able to keep contact with the field early on in her lone dirt try and was "distanced"

Ecology (3/1) If Kobla stops to an utter walk after six furlongs and Mien can't handle the dirt again - she could grind out an upset.

I'll take Mien...she's a proven winner.

Were there any decent horses in those two Kobla races?

There was no excuse - she just got distanced.

They used to bet Dickinson like a mofo in Maryland - and I'm sure the field she faced 2nd time out was awful.

Corporate Miss won in her 2nd start and Rose of Cimmaron won in her debut.

Hard Spun's dam ran 4 times on dirt ... and never ran a Beyer higher than 42. Included in those 4 races was a well beaten 4th place finish at Penn National .. she'd be a great addition to the race but she was too good on turf to include.

In reality, it's a bad story. McCarthy is a prick and a phony. He's cheated everybody involved with the horse, especially Mark Miller whom he has refused to pay his 10% share from the Sam Davis. He also stiffs the barn help and regular exercise rider. The horse himself is a very cool animal that's come a long way thanks to Miller, but McCarthy is not what some have portrayed.

Yeah I just read the Bloodhorse story about this. And I can't understand how he didn't pay the 10% either if the horse started under his name. Bad job here and I hope the real story gets reported.
