Classic sire Pioneerof the Nile died earlier this year, meaning supply-and-demand dynamics will begin to come into play with his final crops. Pretty ’n Smart is the dam of Grade 1 winner Cupid, Grade 3 winners Heart Ashley and Ashley’s Kitty, and stakes winner Indianapolis. The mare’s 10 yearlings sold at public auction have averaged $775,500, led by a $2.7 million colt at the 2017 Keeneland September sale, a filly sold for $1.2 million here last year, and a colt sold for $1 million here in 2013.

War Front, the most expensive stallion in North America this year, is a perennial leader at Keeneland September by average. Princesa Silvia, who was purchased by $1.4 million by Whisper Hill Farm as a broodmare prospect, is a half-sister to Horse of the Year Saint Liam, Grade 1 winner Funtastic, and graded stakes winners Congessionalhonor and Quiet Giant. Quiet Giant is the dam of Horse of the Year Gun Runner, while another half-sister, Beatem Buster, is the dam of Grade 1 winner Buster’s Ready.

Perennial leading sire and commercial juggernaut Tapit again ranks among this year’s leading sires by earnings, stakes winners, and Beyer Speed Figures. Into Mischief, a perennial leading juvenile sire, has climbed atop North America’s general sire list this season. Canadian Horse of the Year Sealy Hill has developed from an outstanding racemare into an outstanding broodmare, producing Canadian champion Hillaby, Grade 1 winner Cambier Parc, and graded stakes winners Belle Hill and Gale Force. Her three yearlings sold at public auction have averaged $725,000, keyed by Cambier Parc, who sold for $1.25 million here in 2017.

This is the first foal out of unraced Serena’s Harmony, whose first three dams are stakes winners Serena’s Cat and Serena’s Tune and Hall of Fame racemare Serena’s Song, all multiple stakes producers. Group 2 winner Up, who was second in the French 1000 Guineas, is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Dutch Art. The $750,000 foal is Group 1-placed juvenile Monarch of Egypt, by Pioneerof the Nile’s son American Pharoah.

This is a full brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and Belmont Oaks winner New Money Honey. Weekend Whim, a full sister to Grade 1 winner Any Given Saturday and a half-sister to graded winner and producer Bohemian Lady, sold for $1.4 million to Summer Wind Farm while carrying this foal.

Session 2 – Tuesday, Sept. 10

Hip 192, filly by Medaglia d’Oro – Wilshewed, by Carson City. Consigned by Valkyrie Stud, agent for William and Betty Currin Trust. RNA ($450,000)

This filly has the unfortunate position of being the second horse in the ring, but is fortunate to be a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Stormello, graded stakes winners Gala Award and My Best Brother, Grade 1-placed stakes winner Cherry Lodge, and Grade 3-placed Greatest Game. Important for her residual value as a broodmare, she also is a half-sister to two mares who have produced stakes-placed runners.

Hip 193, filly by Tapit – Winter Memories, by El Prado. Consigned by Darby Dan Farm. OUT

This filly’s first two dams, Winter Memories and Memories of Silver, are both multiple Grade 1 winners and stakes producers. This is a full sister to Winter Sunset, a stakes winner and multiple Grade 3-placed. Five of Memories of Silver’s daughters have gone on to be stakes producers, including Grade 3 winner La Cloche, dam of Grade 3 winner Bellavais. This is the second crop for Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, a blockbuster commercial success with his first crop which has gone on to make him a leading freshman sire. The blue hen Leslie’s Lady is the dam of four-time Eclipse Award heroine Beholder, globe-trotting Grade 1 winner Mendelssohn, and Grade 1 winner Into Mischief, the nation’s leading sire. Three of her daughters have produced stakes horses, led by Daisy Mason, dam of stakes winner Harry’s Holiday and Grade 3-placed Remedy. Mendelssohn topped the 2016 edition of this sale at $3 million, and another of Leslie’s Lady’s foals, Leslie’s Harmony, was a seven-figure yearling.
