Since the President doesn't make laws which is under the direction of Capital Hill, his main function is to set the mood and tone of the country internally and the world. As those that remember JFK and the influence of the modern media (TV), projecting the right image and tone are critical.
Obama does a great job. JFK, Regan, and the President on West Wing also did. Conversely, Bush was a very sad joke.
