Yes.. And he's the play here.. Keying both ways with all ($22) in $1 exactas and 1st/2nd with 7-8-11/all in the tri ($30/$30). Plus a $18 show bet as a cover. $100 total..

Edited.. Screwed up the PP #'s..

$24 exacta wheel..
Tris were $36 each..

15-1 on Rebel Rebel intriguing.. 20-1 on Vanderlin nice.. Ballast worth a flyer at 29-1??

Enjoy..

HAve to agree he is the play was going to wait until until closer to post time but had to leave ITW so $20 WPS on the 1 is the ticket.

Has anyone mentioned the new graphics that they use to show the race positions? I love it.

Only just saw the race this morning, but here are some thoughts:

Hardly a vintage renewal of what used to be the Atto Mile, and notwithstanding Ad Valorem was giving weight away all round, a result that lends weight to the theory that the US defence of the Breeders' Cup Mile will be a strong one, Aragorn and Gorella of particular interest; the pace was strong and favoured those held up, Sweet Return best of those up with the pace throughout.

BECRUX: is an improved performer since being gelded in the summer and put up his best effort to date, bravely holding on after it had appeared the runner up would collar him close home; he probably stays 9f, but is at least as effective at 1m and wears bandages these days. It's worth bearing in mind that his only outing on ground softer than good (as a 2yo in Italy) was a poor effort.

REBEL REBEL: has generally been disappointing since finishing runner up to Footstepsinthesand at Newmarket last season, but this was a much better effort, proving that he remains competitive at the highest level, albeit getting the run of the race. 1m is likely to prove his optimum trip, and for all that he has won on good to soft, he appears best on fast ground.

AD VALOREM: wasn't entirely discredited giving weight all round, keeping on well from the rear without ever looking like getting on terms. However, he needs either a relatively weak G1 or for events to go very much his way (Queen Anne) to be successful at this level.

I should also point out that he has run his best races at tracks with one- or no-turn configurations - Newmarket, Belmont and Woodbine. This is why when I was down to two choices, either or, he was one of them. I will oppose him at Churchill, whose turf course requires 2 turns for the mile distance.

Thanks everybody for the discussion. I took Becrux over Rebel Rebel and boy am I glad. Won't lose any ground in the contest at least. Good race to get a decent price on a logical winner.

The Woodbine turf course is OUTSIDE the one-mile dirt (oops, Polytrack) track, so is different from most US turf tracks. In fact, it is a 12f oval, the same size as the Belmont main track, but with a longer stretch - 1440 ft. for the WO turf vs 1097 ft for the Belmont main track - longer even than Churchill's seemingly interminable stretch, 1234 ft. Races up to 9f are one turn. It think it makes perfect sense to use a rider familiar with this unusual layout over a rider from out of town.
