Offensively, they suck. So, they aren't going anywhere, but they risk not even being a .500 team when they don't protect good efforts by starting pitchers. Take, for instance, great efforts by Kuroda(last Tuesday,) Lowe(last Wednesday,) and Billingsley(yesterday.) Broxton pissed away two of those, and Saito the other one. If these two were bad, then I could understand it. Anybody who watched Broxton pitch on Wednesday night saw how good he is when he takes the dress off, and just throws the ball by people. He gets way too much of the plate with any of his ***** pitches. So, the guy just needs to go in there and humm it, because that finesse crap is no good. I blame Martin, Torre, and especially Honeysuck for letting this guy throw anything but the heat (right now.) They seem to be letting this guy call his own pitches, and this guy is a fat Georgia ****** that has barely got a brain. How can you choose to throw that soft **** in the center of the plate? When you've got a 96-98 mph heater? He is a ******. Who would favor that soft crap that fools nobody?

Being a Yankees fan, he reminds me of a young Kyle Farnsworth. And I always end up saying to myself "How can a guy that throws 97 suck so badly!" I guess Broxton is going down that same road and eventually end up in Torre's doghouse ala Farnsworth.

Getting in Torre's doghouse may save him. Torre just kills his bullpen by going to the same guy every day a la Scott Proctor who at one time was a promising bridge guy who Torre just killed in NY. Farnsworth throws hard but flat and as Scuds would say has no intestinal fortitude. Broxton is going to be ok.

The Dodgers have a distinct lack of power in the middle of the lineup (A. Jones was supposed to help but we know how thats working out) They dont have a really feared hitter to build a lineup around and a guy that can change things in a hurry. Kemp may wind up being that kind of guy eventually but not yet. If he could cut down his strikeouts a bit he could be scary. Ethier and Loney are good hitters but not real power guys. Kent looks like he is done.

The big issue for this year is the fall of Brad Penny. He has been awful for a guy who won 16 games the last 2 years. Lowe is getting more hittable which is a bad sign. Kuroda is ok. Chan Ho has risen from the dead but how long can that last.

Yes, the biggest surprise is not that Broxton is being Jeckyl n' Hyde (this is actually his usual, and we thought 2 years ago that he would eventually take the dress off.) Penny is the surprise. To be honest, there is no way he isn't gunna get hit hard. He is throwing it right smack down the center of the plate. You couldn't get more of the plate, and it's flat. I can't tell ya exactly what's changed ( because Charlie Steiner n' Lyons do the road games ,) but I would guess the velocity is down as well. He might have to be shut down. Will learn more this week, because Scully will be all over it (unlike the road game pair of .) I don't think KEMP is ever going to hit good pitching. Unfortunately, with this team, it really is a case of guys that aren't talented enough to hit good pitching. As soon as they get bad pitching to hit, they come alive (Heilman the other night.) Ethier might be able to, and Martin may be able to hit .250 against good pitching. LONEY/ KEMP will never hit good pitching. They will always hit bad pitching (like white on rice.) We need Furcal back very badly. That's the main thing which changed. If you look at how they've done since he got hurt, then you'd see how important that player is to this team. A healthy, productive FURCAL can mean as much as 15 games a year for this team.

Angels (34-24)....245 runs scored........240 runs allowed

Dodgers (27-29)....249 runs scored.....242 runs allowed

All I can say is that mismanagement has fkd up the Dodgers to the point they may never come back. It's beyond me, how they ever chose that cold fish (BILLY RUSSELL) over Scioscia. Billy probably has got his hands full trying to manage his dick pills well enough to get hard once a week.

I think that shows how lucky the Angels have been as opposed to anything the Dodgers have done wrong. Kemp can hit. What is amazing is that he is striking out 25% of his at bats yet still hitting .315 with an OBP of .361. If he can just cut that a bit and put more balls in play he can easily be a .330 hitter because some of the balls in play will drop for hits. Martin is a tremendous hitter especially for a catcher. Furcal is a very good player but can never seem to stay healthy. If Ethier, Loney and De Witt keep hitting they will do ok because Kent almost has to get better but they just are missing the big power bat. They are ranked 7th in MLB in avg, 9th in OBP but just 24th in SLG, 22nd in RBI's, 28th in HR's and 29th in 2b's. Some of this is park related of course but the lack of extra base hits just kills them.

The Angels still have some pitchers in the bull pin and are young enough to run the bases.

The Dodgers just dont have the farm system to feed the club like the O"Malleys did.

The Dodgers future is just a .500 ball club and they will still draw 3 million.
