Mark McDermott was the longtime executive director of the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association.

No idea why they would name an open 2yo stakes race after him -- but half of the stakes races are named after politicians and golf events...so, good choice I suppose.

The lady who is the dining room host introduced Steve Asmussen to Presque Isle Downs director of racing in the clubhouse a few years ago --- the PID director of racing said "Nice to meet you Steve -- what is it that you do again?"
