When Norman Asbjornson steps on the main track at Pimlico Race Course for the
136th Preakness Stakes (G1) on Saturday, Phil Grove will step out of the stewards’ stand.
A former jockey and current Maryland state steward, Grove will excuse himself to watch and cheer for
Norman Asbjornson, who will be saddled by his son, Chris. Maryland Racing Commission Executive Director J. Michael Hopkins will replace Phil in the stewards’ stand for the Preakness.
