The Keeneland September sale’s first four days, comprising Book 1, feature dozens of yearlings with notable pedigrees. Among them are the following individuals cataloged to sell Thursday, Sept. 11:
Hip 573 - This filly is a full sister to 2012 and 2013 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT) winner Mizdirection and a half sister to stakes winner Hurricane Bernie. By Mizzen Mast , she’s consigned by Four Star Sales as agent for Joe Perrotta.
Hip 599 - This colt from Unbridled’s Song’s penultimate crop is also the first foal out of grade I winner Dr. Zic, by Milwaukee Brew . Peter O’Callaghan’s Woods Edge agency consigns.
Hip 609 - A Proud Citizen colt, he’s a full brother to 2012 Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can. Brereton C. Jones’s Airdrie Stud offers this colt out of the El Prado (Ire) mare El Fasto.
Hip 613 - The Lane’s End agency consigns this Giant's Causeway filly, the first registered foal out of Canadian champion older mare Embur’s Song. The dam, by Unbridled’s Song, also was a track record-setting winner of the grade III Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland in 2011.
Hip 616 - This colt is from Pulpit’s final crop and is a half brother to last year’s Haskell (gr. I) and Wood Memorial (gr. I) winner Verrazano . He’s also a full brother to grade II winner El Padrino and bred very similarly to recent Saratoga allowance winner La Madrina, who is by Pulpit’s son Tapit and out of this yearling’s dam, Enchanted Rock (Giant’s Causeway). He’s in the Gainesway agency’s consignment.
Hip 624 - The first registered foal out of dual grade I winner Evening Jewel (Northern Afleet ) is by Medaglia d'Oro . Taylor Made Sales consigns the filly on behalf of Aaron and Marie Jones.
Hip 627 - This Giant’s Causeway—Executricker filly is a half sister to Ballerina Stakes (gr. I) winner Hilda's Passion. Shawhan Place offers her for Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Kuster.
Hip 644 - Another by Medaglia d’Oro, this colt out of Flying Passage (A. P. Indy) is a half brother to graded winners Hungry Island and Soaring Empire and a full brother to grade II-placed Tokyo Time, who won twice recently, at Belmont and then at Saratoga. Gainesway’s agency is the consignor.
Hip 647 - Champion juvenile filly and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) winner Folklore is the dam of this Bernardini filly consigned by the Taylor Made Sales agency. She is a half sister to winner Immaculate. Also in the family are graded winner Jeano and graded-placed Divided Attention and Delightful Quality, among others.
Hip 668 - This Awesome Again colt from the Adena Springs consignment is out of Canadian champion 3-year-old filly Ginger Brew. The immediate family also includes multiple grade II winner Bourbon Bay and, farther back, such runners as grade I winner Vision and Verse.
Hip 680 - War Front progeny are in demand, and Claiborne Farm offers his son from the Arch mare Gold Vault. He’s a half brother to Contested, who won the Acorn (gr. I) and Test (gr. I) Stakes in 2012, along with the grade III Eight Belles. His dam is a half sister to dual grade I winner Pomeroy.
Hip 683 - At a time when Tapit yearlings are some of the most popular lots on the grounds, Paramount Sales agency puts forward this son of the young millionaire and multiple graded winner Gotta Have Her, by Royal Academy.
Hip 687 - This Bernardini colt from Besilu Stables (Taylor Made Sales, agent) is a half brother to grade I winner Malibu Prayer. His catalog page got more black type after publication when another half sibling, Valid, became a graded winner with his victory in this summer’s Monmouth Cup Stakes (gr. II). The dam is stakes-winner Grand Prayer.
Hip 691 - The Woods Edge agency consigns this half brother to dual grade I winner The Factor . He’s by WinStar Farm’s first-crop sire Sidney's Candy out of the Miswaki mare Greyciousness, a half sister to grade I-placed runner Chief Seattle.
Hip 703 - This Medaglia d’Oro colt is a half brother to Killer Graces, winner of the 2011 Hollywood Starlet Stakes (gr. I), and to stakes-placed Rockin Heather. His dam is the Old Trieste winner Heatherdoesntbluff. The Hunter Valley Farm agency consigns.
Hip 704 - This filly by Tapit is a half sister to American champion juvenile Stevie Wonderboy, and she’s very similarly bred to English group III winner and grade/group I placed Theyskens' Theory. Another half sibling is stakes-placed Queen Joanne. This daughter of Heat Lightning (Summer Squall) is part of the Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services consignment.
Hip 713 - Grade I winner and millionaire Judy the Beauty is this colt’s three-quarters sister. He’s by Awesome Again out of the stakes-winning Holy Blitz, by Holy Bull. Woods Edge Farm is the consignor.
Hip 731 - This Candy Ride (Arg) colt is a half brother to three group I performers: 2012 Irish St. Leger winner Royal Diamond and group I-placed Princess Highway and Mad About You (Ire). Consigned by James Keogh’s Grovendale agency, he’s out of Irish champion 3-year-old filly Irresistible Jewel (Ire).
Hip 747 - Mt. Brilliant Farm (Lane’s End, agent) has one of just four Galileo yearlings in the auction. This colt is a half brother to 2006 champion juvenile filly Dreaming of Anna, whose 3yo Fast Anna was second in the King’s Bishop (gr. I) this summer, to track-record-setting sire Lewis Michael, to graded winner Justenuffhumor, and to Justenufftime, who produced this year’s Monmouth Oaks (gr. III) winner. This colt is a son of stakes winner Justenuffheart (Broad Brush), who also is a half sister to champion and successful sire Kitten’s Joy.
Hip 748 - This Tapit colt is out of Justenufftime, a Giant’s Causeway half sister to champion Dreaming of Anna and track-record-setting sire Lewis Michael, as well as to graded winner Justenuffhumor. His 3-year-old full sister Cassatt gave him a significant update by winning the Monmouth Oaks (gr. III) last month. She’s now won three in a row this year by a combined 12 lengths. Mt. Brilliant sells the yearling through Lane’s End’s agency.
Hip 749 - Another Tapit colt, this one a half brother to 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year's Day . The son of grade I-placed and grade II winner Justwhistledixie, by Dixie Union, is in Clearsky Farm’s consignment.
Hip 761 - Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent, offers this Bernardini half brother to 2009 champion sprinter Kodiak Kowboy, who also was Canada’s juvenile champion in 2007. The family also features grade I winner West By West, now a sire. The dam is Kokadrie, by Coronado’s Quest.
