The Derby rules are pretty silly and count any money from any graded stakes. That means that the Sheikhs could up the UAE Derby to $10 million and structure the payouts so that the top five are guaranteed a spot in the Derby if they want. It also means that 6 or 7 fillies could get in the field every year if they wanted to. The Delta Jackpot is going to make the problem worse this year. 2nd place in the Wood Memorial will no longer earn you a spot in the Derby. Jazil was the last to get in last year despite no foreign horses or fillies and it is only going to be worse next year.
The Eclipse Awards are based on your North American accomplishments so shouldn't factor in money earned overseas.
