I have to share one of my favorites with you. Late in his career, John Eaton and I had a homebred Capote filly named Smile Maker that bucked her shins at 2 in her first start so we stopped on her. She went back into training with Jimmy at Gulfstream early in her 3yo year and he felt strongly she would break her maiden next out. Jimmy was pretty low profile late in his career so we told him we "needed to make a score." He trained that filly early in the dark and would breeze her to the 1/8th pole just to keep her under the radar. With Rene Douglas in the saddle, she paid $68 to win!!! Sometimes the old timers don't lose their skills if they have the right horse!!
Thanks again!
