Moran was smart and funny and pulled no punches. Unlike some of the sport's current critics in the media, he didn't have an agenda when he sought to point out something he didn't agree with and you never had to wonder if he liked or cared about the game. He gave the impression of being irascible but was in fact exceedingly personable, thoughtful and imperturbable. And he could really write. Was saddened when he had to retire 5 years ago and further saddened to see him taken at just 67. He had plenty to say and it was always worth hearing him out.
