What Obama meant to say
When President Obama said
"If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan, period.",
what he really meant to say was:
"If you like your health plan (and if we like your health plan, since after all, we know what's good for you), you can keep your health plan. (the choice is ours, not yours), period."
