Politically negotiated solutions seem like a better option, whether it's before the bombs start falling and the bullets fly, or after the bodies of both sides are gathered for burial by their families.
Seems to me that all wars end at the same place. A few, fat, old, grey haired guys sitting around a table and talking.
Perhaps the "talking" needs to be done before the military commitment.
It ends up at the same place. Fat old guys at the table, denying the tragedies they've created, looking for their "share".

I teach history and am not someone who takes war lightly. At the same time, many countries including Israel and Singapore have mandatory military time for about 2 years. This isn't about being involved in a war, most of the last 30 years has been peacetime for this country. Iraq has really been an occupation, a poorly thought out one at that.
