I remember posting here after the Beyer article that Beyer was too hard on the Maktoums. Ironically, my distorted view was based on a TV news piece that showed the upside of Dubai. This country is just like all but one of the others in the region: They are not democracies. Perhaps it is just the way it is. Maybe we cannot save the world; we cannot even stop horse slaughter here.
