Granted, he might not have been the most sound horse -- but on his day he could have challenged anybody in the history of the sport. Dr. Fager might have beaten him at a mile but GZ wouldn't have been that far behind. And that's saying a lot.

Ghostzapper was maybe not "great" based on his paucity of races but he was certainly "very special" in terms of pure unadulterated speed. And that was speed at any distance. Carrying weight too.

He and Candy Ride were two of the fastest horses we have seen in a long time.
