I haven't done figures for this potentially very important day yet ... but here's how the horse with the highest late pace figure on CJ's numbers did in every non 2yo maiden dirt race on the card Yesterday at Parx:
Race #1: Mad Magic had the fields outright highest late pace figure of 60. Finished 2nd at 26/1 odds and was beaten by just 1 and a quarter lengths.
Race #2: 2yo Maiden race
Race #3: Doublethestyle had the fields outright highest late pace figure of 66. Finished 2nd at 7/1 odds.
Race #4: Neon Tan had the fields outright highest late pace figure of 70. Finished 3rd beaten just 1 length at 12/1 odds.
Race #5: Crushing had the fields outright highest late pace figure of 69. Won at Even Money.
Race #6: TURF
Race #7: Hello Lover and Layers are tied with the fields highest late pace figure of 69. Hello Lover wins at odds of 9/5 and Layers finished 3rd at odds of 19/1.
Race #8: TURF
Race #9: Well Spelled and Private Zone are tied with the fields best late pace figure of 62. Well Spelled won at 14/1 odds and Private Zone finished 3rd at 32/1 odds.
Race #10: Dixie Strike had the fields best late pace figure of 71. She finished 3rd in the Cotillion at odds of 8/1. The slow pace set by such talented rivals probably didn't help her any.
Race #11: Stephanoatsee has the outright highest late pace number of 77. He finished 4th beaten less than 3 lengths at odds of 17/1. Meanwhile, Handsome Mike had the fields second best late pace of 74, the only other horse in the race with a late pace in the 70's, and he was on a clear lead coming out of the first turn. Won at 19/1 odds.
Race #12: Blue Geranium had the fields outright highest late pace figure of 51 and finished 2nd by a length at odds of 4/1.
Basically, the tiring nature of that dirt surface seemed to favor horses who had the best finishing ability from a figure standpoint.
