Quarter horse racing network (and sometimes even thoroughbreds too!) TVG is airing a Racing Roundtable on Jan 20 at 8 PM where the topic will be TVG Programming.
You can email questions to
roundtable@tvg.com beforehand that you wish to be addressed.
Hopefully they get a lot of help.
HRTV Handicappers Jeff Siegal, Brad Free, and Kurt Hoover do more work for one typical segment than almost all of the TVG talent do in a month.
And on top of that -- those guys often have opinions about races and don't take a horrible middling position on everything. Nor do they try and be funny despite the fact that they have no future at all in comedy.
At the minimum -- they need to go out and find people who could be useful if they tried. Find people who take different angles. Go get a clocker from each coast. Get a sheets player. Get a competent trip handicapper to come on each morning. Get a pace handicapper (or teach Matt Carouthers more advanced pace methods) They have a good enough pedigree guy already in Rich Perloff.
There are so many things they could do to get much better -- but that would be a simple start.
The racing product we got on local cable in Erie in the entire decade of the 90's was laughably superior to TVG.
