They've all had some ability but are inclined to mature slowly mentally. Loyal Shadow was 0/8 as a 2yo before catching on as a 3yo last year with the move to grass and a drop to MDN $25k. She then has gone on to 4 more wins the last 18 months and with Thursday's showing has banked more than $150k. We're taking advantage of the grass as Pal seems to prefer it, but he may not want to go the 8.5f. We'll see. Nakatani should get to control things up front, so if the mile and 'teenth is in his scope at this time, I agree he has a big chance..
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this colt's chances at 8.5 furlongs. I know Andy doesn't want to hear about siblings, but each of the others didn't do their best until stretched out, either on polytrack or turf. Obviously Loyal Shadow is the best of the bunch and she has won at 6f, but her best races have been at 7f and a mile and as she gets older she seems to prefer going longer. I also think that had she been able to swing outside at any point yesterday she wins that race. I may be biased, but that's my opinion.
That being said, I don't think that there is any indication of My Pal of Pals ability going 2 turns from his last race as I think he got a "curious" ride from Choppy after the colt dumped him at the gate. I look forward to a good effort on Sunday....at least I have my fingers crossed.
