I took your suggestion and went back and did the numbers using both the 1990 and 2000 census stats (http://www.census.gov/prod/3/98pubs/p23-194.pdf page 14) and back then an African American was six times as likely as a white person, to be on welfare. So we've come a long way.

And true the majority of welfare recipients are white if that makes you feel better.
