I agree with the rest about not to worry about being stupid, this is horse racing and if 70% are wrong all the time, we'd all make money which we don't so were actually dumber than that.
As for the future bet, above comments are correct.
What may be interesting if you are internet savy is to try to contact an English bookmaker. WM Hill or Ladbrooks for example. They will take a bet on anything and will most likely give you the odds you are looking for.
I remember when I lived there a guy had a dream about a horse winning the Grand National a year in advance and they took a bet on it at 500-1.
