As to future wagering on individual horses, the early "sleepers" like the one you seem to know about generally go into a category of "all others" at not all that generous of odds. If the casino is making book.
Maybe 20-1, or 35-1 at most. Maybe more in a larger house.
Often you'll find the future wagering offers significantly lower odds than what you might eventually get on the same horse...... IF it goes on Derby Day.
I like fun sports futures on things like baseball and football, but I'm not too attracted to long term futures on the thoroughbreds.
But, for a $20 investment, you might have more than enough fun in holding that ticket for a few months.
