No. It was a good thing. But it was "infamous" as it was .... old fashioned. Daring. Risky. Putting rotted buttermilk down an already sick animal? But it worked. So still talked about. The more natural precursor to more expensive current "probiotics"

Ofttimes nature is best.
When I was a teenager, old horsemen (and old vets) were still putting drenches of turpentine, whisky and linseed oil down colic horses. No wonder so many died in pain.
