Tuscaloosa, AL- The University of Alabama announced today that its football program was dropping out of the SEC because of the tough in-conference schedules it has to endure as a member. This unprecedented move cast shudders throughout the BCS offices as the Crimson Tide may set off a series of changes as top programs feel that they shouldn't have to "extend themselves so much" as Nick Saban commented at todays press conference.

"Why should we be forced to play at rough venues in Gainesville and Baton Rouge?" Saban asked.

"The chance of injury to a key player is much less when playing an overmatched but plucky team like Alabama State on a well manicured field right here in Bryant-Denny Stadium. We are going to draw more fans playing all our games at home and think of the positive publicity that will bring the sport? Isn't the joy of seeing such incredible athletes performing enough that we shouldn't be greedy and actually ask too much of them? Don't you want them to be at their peak for the Bowl game? Why waste it in week three in an away game?" Saban said as he made his case.

"Do any of you know how hard it is to travel and play, let alone travel across the Rockies and compete against one of those speedy Pac-10 teams? That is just too much to ask of our guys, especially the 5th year seniors. Hell if anyone wants to play us they can come here. Afterall we are the defending champions, are currently undefeated and have won 18 in a row," Saban continued.

Not commented on was the suspect schedule and unique playing surface that Saban-reveiled Boise State has used to its success in vaulting to the upper echlon of the sport. However those light campaigns and strange blue field surely has affected the way the sport now looks at itself moving forward.
