But the respect because he's the president quip is comical, based on all the crack/jokes made about the prior administration. The last guy that was the president was an absolute punching bag and unjustly didn't get the respect that he deserved as commander an chief.

Most people probably won't agree with this, but I don't think anybody deserves any
extra respect just because they're the president. I don't see how hoping that Bush or Obama choke on a pretzel is any worse than hoping that anybody else chokes on a pretzel. The whole "respect the office" thing seems kind of "un-American" to me. They aren't freaking royalty. The president works for us.
I don't like Nascar1966's statement, but not because it was about the president. If he had said it about the Secretary of State, or the White House janitor, or the previous president, or Lebron James.....same deal.
