A lot more than 15. But your point is well taken: run them when they can't get a reasonable distance so that the owners get hooked even more. Why keep them in the barn or on the farm and let them develop to the point when they can actually compete as horses?  |
Yeah there might be 20 or 25 out of how many races run this year? 40000 or 50000?
And yes owners get "hooked" on running horses 4 1/2 furlongs. Turns them into zombies that just start spending more and more.
There are few things in this sport, which is full of bad ideas, that is more idiotic or disproven than the idea that horses shouldnt compete as 2 year olds.
