"Paizano, trainer Bill White's promising 3-year-old, broke down suddenly while cruising on the lead approaching the quarter pole in Saturday's 10th race. A son of Formal Dinner, Paizano had won three of his first seven starts and had Beyer Speed Figures of 94 and 92 at Gulfstream Park in his two outings before the Sarutrday race. He also set Gulfstream's 5 1/2-furlong track record of 1:03 earlier this winter.
Paizano was euthanized on the track. Jockey Luis Saez walked away from the spill unscathed and accepted his final two mounts on the card.
Paizano went off as the 1-9 favorite and had taken nearly 97 percent of the money bet into a $165,000 show pool."
