HAMPTON, Virginia — US President Barack Obama lamented Sunday that in the iPad and Xbox era, information had become a diversion that was imposing new strains on democracy, in his latest critique of modern media.
"With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations, -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation," Obama said.

The kids asked a lot of questions, including one about what kind of music the first lady likes.
"Oh, that's a good question. I like all kinds of music," she said. "All right, so this is what's in my iPod, some of the stuff that's in my iPod. I love Stevie Wonder." Other artists she named: the late Michael Jackson and "I've got some Rihanna, I've got some Beyonce -- I love Beyonce. Oh, yeah, I love some Beyonce. I've got some new Usher on my CD. I'm trying to relate the things that are on there that you could connect with. Sting, anyone? Sting? No?" Compare that list to what Mrs. Obama offered up last October on "The Jay Leno Show": Sting, Stevie Wonder, Sara Bareilles, Robin Thicke and Herbie Hancock.
