If a horse is taken out of training for say 3 months what are the costs of keeping the horse on the farm compared to keeping her under training ?
Also I was wondering if the horse doesn't pan out as expected as a racehorse and has some value as a broodmare what are the costs of owning her for breeding.
Thank you.

Hey PCL, the $180 fixed cost is when your 'share' is in full training. If for some reason she needed a break, it would be less then $180 and the 5% equivalent would be approx $50. This number really depends on what is going on with the particular horse.
Broodmare value is dropped over the last couple years because of the economy, even so, we probably wouldn't keep them for breeding purposes. This is a racing agreement. I will say that because of the 'bottom side' of alot of these fillies, if they were to win some races, they would have some broodmare value.

Assume 10% purse commission to Chuck - would that be on all purses or only on top 3 purses?
Any management fees?
Any voting rights or is this a silent partnership?

Chuck is managing these horses. Partners have every right to voice their opinions and they will be noted, Chuck is obviously going to do what he thinks is best for the horse, but like always, he is going to customize to his owners. I think a perfect example is where he has raced alot of the DT horses, I think he has done pretty good running them where they belong, and at tracks available to the partners. The people currently involved are in it for the love of the game, and their main goal is to break even and have alot of fun.
Some months cost $3200, some months cost $4k. I pulled the $3600 average from 2 years of solid data.
Here would be an approx breakdown:
Day rate: $2400
Supplements: $150
Blacksmith: $150
Vet: $400
Transportation, Dental, Insurance, Jock Mount fees, Licensing, Pony to posts, Ponying, Stall rent: Variable
