Stupak is a great grandstander. He was trying, however, very seriously, through this diversion regarding the healthcare bill amendment he wanted, to get (via that amendment) tougher abortion restrictions into this country than our law allows, via this bill, by backdooring "Roe vs Wade", and he failed.

Thus accepting the Executive Order means nothing, it's just for show. He didn't get what he really wanted - to circumvent Roe v. Wade and increase restrictions on abortions by making them very difficult to get whether insured or not - anyway.
Exactly. Nothing changed, except that "pro-lifers" were salivating about having someone grandstand for their cause...and then when he actually just maintained the status quo, they called him "baby killer," rescinded his award, and are shaming him now. They never cared about him or his "principled" stand -- it was all about scoring cheap points.

And hilariously enough, everyone who was paying any attention knew that the healthcare bill would never have changed the Hyde Amendnent, but what he was trying to do was go even further and make it so that any plans even remotely touched by government subsidies couldn't provide funds...essentially restricting it even further than it already is in lots of states.

So he's back to a baby killer, but at least he's a household name now for those paying attention -- not sure that either helps him, but I know I'd donate to a progressive challenger for his seat.
