You make an excellent point here. Although, this is becoming a political hot patato now that some politicians will be subject to a criminal investigation regarding the AEG deal. The likely media scrutiny from this point forward may have politicians fearful of taking that kind of money. But then again, most of them are whores who will go to any lengths to get campaign contribution money so you may very well be right.
