But I really don't think as this of a knee jerk reaction. Clearly the move by Viktor Tikhonov in 1980, was a hot headed knee jerk reaction. He underestimated the US (why shouldn't he) and clearly thought they had no chance of winning reguardless who was between the pipes.
This is a case of them replacing a goalie that has been playing below his usual level. With an very (actually 2) capeable backups on the roster, they feel like this is the time for a switch. But reguardless anything less than a gold medal performance will be second guessed. (should they have stayed with Marty? or Why didn't they put Luongo in).
