Does it really enhance her value? Hard to say. But I had a conversation with a farm manager this past fall who described to me a situation with a well-bred NY-bred filly for a big breeder here in New York. The filly couldn't break her maiden on the NYRA circuit and was shipped to Finger Lakes specifically to break her maiden and make her a "winner," both to help the filly herself and the mare she came from. She won the race and was promptly retired.
I've often said that catalog pages lie. "Winner at 3, $30,000" can mean dramatically different things if you look at the PPs of two different mares. It's for the buyer to do the necessary homework and uncover those differences.
