They (people on the cruise) warned us not to give any kind of material worth to anybody. And then went on to tell the story of a tourist feeling bad for a young bare footed boy with bloody feet. The tourist gave the young boy some money and bought him shoes. Supposedly (This was the story they told everyone) the boy was killed for the shoes. I also remember everyone begging for money, like the streets were lined for blocks with people begging. It was just a ver sad and scary situation.
Fast foward to today, I can't even imagine whats going on down there. These people have nothing to start with and if possible they have even less today. Just terri
you have not been around. back in my navy days, i've seen worse. when we went to senagal. they could not even feed their navy guys. they were eating our sliders like they were filet mignon. people were begging for bread and apples there, forget money. in somalia they have goats for pets in case theres no food. in the middle east they live behind barbed wire and chicken wire. (then people wonder why they blow themselves up) people here don't have a clue, until something like this. i remember some guys kissing the dock when we got back after the cruises. we are the fattest, softest, laziest bunch theres ever been. but watch how many knot heads will complain about helping them...most (ie. pat robertson) would not last there a day! "wheres my manucure and cigar" i'm busy doing Jesus work.....lol
