When I was a kid. We went on a cruise of the Carribean. Haiti was one of the ports we stopped at. I can honestly say that it was one of the scariest, pooriest and most horrible places I have ever been. I couldn't have been more than 8 years old and I remember being petrified that we were going to miss the boat out of there. They (people on the cruise) warned us not to give any kind of material worth to anybody. And then went on to tell the story of a tourist feeling bad for a young bare footed boy with bloody feet. The tourist gave the young boy some money and bought him shoes. Supposedly (This was the story they told everyone) the boy was killed for the shoes. I also remember everyone begging for money, like the streets were lined for blocks with people begging. It was just a ver sad and scary situation.
Fast foward to today, I can't even imagine whats going on down there. These people have nothing to start with and if possible they have even less today. Just terrible!
On a side note, is anyone (mostly people on the East Coast) all of a sudden giving a little thought to a major earthquake closer to the East coast? Usually this stuff happens out west and making me think if the East coast could be vulnarble to a major quake.
