For the last several years, The Tonight Show (with Leno) was consistently beating Letterman. Now that Conan has taken over, The Tonight Show is consistently losing to Letterman by a couple of million viewers a night.
It doesn't really matter who you or I think is funnier between Jay and Conan. It matters who the millions of viewers think is funnier and the millions of viewers think Leno is funnier.
