The fact that Acclamation hung around for a piece showed that pace dominated the race and he was there the entire way. In his last two the circumstances have worked in his favor and this race looks like it's going to have a hot pace so he could find himself a bit too far off it and then who knows what happens.

Santa Anita has shot themselves in the foot once again with the creation of the Sir Beaufort. It allows the better turf 3yos to avoid older horses at least one more time when the fairly important San Gabriel at 9f is sitting right there a couple of days later. Predictably, this year's edition will attract 6 horses if its lucky...as it has ever since they slapped a graded ranking on the Sir Beaufort.
The sad part is, with the switch to synthetics, the Sir Beaufort can also take away from the Malibu. Probably 75% of the horses nominated were nominated to both. For example, Massone would be right at home in the Malibu.
