But he gave the leaders 8-10 lengths and drew even with them without really being asked in a matter of 3/16 of a mile, and won easily on a track that's by and large, a speed/presser-favoring one.

I get that it wasn't the toughest bunch, and that it was at Meadowlands, but have you never seen a race where you watch a horse do something that surprises you in how easily he/she does it, and you just say "wow?"
