Last summer and fall I heard and read, from the financial sector gurus, that in the next year or two unemployment rates would lag far behind, and recover far more slowly, than other indicators of this recession. "If" we could keep this recession from going into a depression. That even after other indicators started to slow and maybe even turn around, unemployment would continue to rise. Because that's the way it works. It's always worked that way. No surprise. And it would be worse, this time, regarding unemployment turning around, because this is the worse recession we've ever been in, in modern times, and it is going to take a long time to turn around.
Gee. That is exactly what is happening.
