Dubai World Cup winner Aaron Gryder relocates

By Jon Lees10.08AM 11 NOV 2009 Hong Kong:

Aaron Gryder, the US jockey who rode Well Armed to victory in this year's Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup, is moving to Hong Kong after securing a licence to ride there over the winter.

Gryder, who has been based in California since 2006, spent two weeks in Hong Kong in the summer and has now been given a contract by the Hong Kong Jockey Club that will run from November 16 until Marchnext year.

Gryder, 39, who has ridden more than 3,000 winners, said: "I am very excited and honoured that I have been invited to ride for the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

"It's a big move. California is my home, and my children, Grace (7) and Christian (9), will be here, but I still have so much passion for the game and a desire to win at the highest level.

"Racing in Hong Kong will give me a chance to ride many more great horses. The Hong Kong Jockey Club has high standards and I'm thankful to them for affording me this wonderful opportunity."
