you strike when the iron is hot. if summer bird seems to have a race in him, they ought to go for it because there's no guarantee what next year will bring. i'd expect summer bird to be the forefront for handicap horses, but who knows?
hey, i got grief when i said nick zito was messing up keeping his three top two year old colts in the barn a few years back, rather than attempt the juvie. he said he wanted to save them for spring. i was told i didn't know as much as him.
none of his colts made the derby that spring.
