I think the GOP is simply continuing to live what the country has lived the past 8 years. It became acceptable to overtly lie, deny truth or fact, and, to quote Cheney, say "So what?" to what the public wants, to any opposition or question. I've never seen so many overt, public lies as with healthcare reform, and so many people believe them.

The GOP didn't used to be like this. GOP today keeps quoting Reagan. Reagan would turn over in his grave to see this party's behaviour today.

The majority of Americans voted for Obama, they want out of Iraq, they want healthcare reform, they want government involvement in trying to end the recession, not government detachment. I didn't want Hilary, but there was no way in hell I could vote for a ticket with Sarah Palin on it, so Obama was the only choice for me.

I do want strong, aggressive healthcare reform. It's not American or patriotic to ignore fellow Americans in need. It's not American to be selfish, and care only about one's self, the "I got mine, screw you" attitude. The GOP promised healtcare reform, but ignored it completely the last eight years. Now they are refusing to cooperate or compromise or bring anything to the table at all, at this point.

The people used to the last eight years simply don't seem able to get beyond the fact they lost, overwhelmingly. They are like children throwing tantrums, sitting down, refusing to cooperate. The GOP probably won't recover more than 20 seats in 2010 at this rate. Historically the opposition party in any first election post-Presidential easily regains 20-40 seats in the Legislature. The GOP lack of participation in healthcare reform will do them in. They are loud, but they are the minority, and they are completely disorganized. My local GOP meetings have been nothing but whining and complaint since the election. Complete waste of time.

That in the special state election just held in Kentucky (state level), that a Republican lost to a Dem in an overwhelmingly strong Republican district hasn't been lost on the State GOP pundits. They are already scrambling (although I was personally quite glad the GOP candidate was defeated in favor of a Dem favorable to slots for horse racing)
