I don't understand why the media types don't even mention why various races have certain names in their reports. They could impart a lot of the rich history of the sport that way. Let's face it - a number of our big races have names that sound bizarre to the general public. The Go for Wand S, for example. If the writer or broadcaster explained that the race was named for a champion filly who died on the track and that it was previously named for Maskette, a champion of 100 years ago, it would become understandable and make part of the sport less opaque to those on the fringes.
