JOCKEYS Kieren Fallon and John Egan teamed up to give US trainer Wesley Ward's ground-breaking Royal Ascot team a first feel of British racecourse surroundings on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket on Wednesday morning.
Overseen by Ward"s assistantJose Corrales, the work kicked off with Fallon aboard the Albany Stakes-bound Aegean, who went three furlongs at a brisk pace with fellow juvenile Jealous Again, who was ridden by Egan.
Jealous Again showed the uphill finish held no terrors for her when bursting five lengths clear of a partner under a hand ride and on this evidence would appear a live contender for the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes.
Aegean had held the upper hand the last time these two met in public at Keeneland in April but she took a little time to get her act together in the dip.
Corrales said: "This is the first time these horses have been on grass since they came over here last Thursday. Jealous Again worked well, maybe too well. I told Johnny to go 36 which is 12, 12 and 12 per furlong but maybe he did it in 34 and change."
