Kinda gave up?? They auctioned off Wells before they were even into September.This pitcher had a decent outing just the Saturday before.I think he only gave up a couple earned runs in 7 innings that night.When they were still in Oakland,they sent Wells back to Boston.I think they gave up somewhere between Sunday Night(AUG 27TH,)and Monday afternoon(AUG 28th.)They sent Wells home Monday night,or Tuesday morning.They quit.
