I was never impressed by Nicanor and have had a doubtful, pessimistic attitude toward him being a stakes horse.
However I was very surprised and impressed from his run yesterday.
Here was a horse who is bred for 10 furlongs and he was running a fast extended sprint in only his second start. He actually looked good doing it.
It would be great to see him stretch out and maybe run a longer route over that tiring Keeneland track for his next start. I think his pedigree would then be to his advantage, while most of his rivals want no part of a route over a tiring surface. If the owners were a little crazy they might even play with the idea of the Blue Grass Stakes. Maiden or not, he is
never going to get another chance to run for 750K against mostly dirt miler 3yos, on a synthetic-turf surface going 9 furlongs! lol
